Visit Philadelphia
If you are
looking for an East Coast affordable vacation, Philadelphia
may be an ideal destination.. Philly is full of attractions
and things to do that are free or requesting small
donations. We enjoyed the
drive from upstate New York in the spring driving through the Pocono's
and on down through the Allentown-Bethlehem area; but I-95 is convenient
from the north or from the south. If you are coming from the mid-west,
Philadelphia is a straight shot from I-76, which you can pick up near
Pittsburg.
Philadelphia is one
those big cities in which you can still drive around and see the sites.
With a little planning, you may drive along the Schuylkill Expressway,
see the architecture of the Boat Houses and the Fairmont Waterworks from
the road as you approach the Downtown. Once in the city.
visit the famous Philadelphia Museum of Art. Their
collection extends across the ages from Egyptian to French Impressionism
to Modern Art. Nearby bonuses include the "Rocky" Statue
and the the Rodin Museum, with a "Thinker" Statue in the entrance
garden.
Just a short drive are
the true national treasures for which Philadelphia is famous. They
include Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the Betsy Ross House.
For the kids there is
of course the Philadelphia
Zoo. The Philadelphia Zoo’s 42-acre Victorian garden is home to more
than 1,300 animals, many of them rare and endangered.
Our rainy day favorite there is the
Franklin Institute, which is a world-class hands-on museum
demonstrating technology, industry, and science.
Of course a Philly
vacation should include the song-famous "South Street" and a Philly
Cheese steak..
